A bust of Sophie Scholl with accompanying white rose, looks over the main entrance hall at Munich’s Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität.
Sophie, her brother Hans, a number of friends and a University professor established a student-based resistance movement in the Bavarian capital they called the ‘White Rose’.
They resolved to write protest leaflets urging their compatriots to think and to oppose the nature and reality of the National Socialist state.
It was in this hall that brother and sister were eventually caught, red-handed in the very act of defiance.
